Urogynecology offers advanced treatment and care for disorders of the pelvic floor in women. These conditions include – urinary incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, stress incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, post-hysterectomy prolapse, urethral diverticulum, and vesicovaginal and rectovaginal fistulas amongst others. Under urogynecology, the doctors perform various procedures, which include – prolapse surgery, anal sphincter repair, complex urodynamic testing, hysterectomy, vesicovaginal fistula repairs and others.
Disorders of the pelvic floor require a prolapse surgery for correction. In case of most pelvic disorders, the pelvic muscles weaken and result in the dropping-off of the organs much lower into the pelvic region. As a result, a bulge or a prolapse of the vagina happens. In some cases, the vaginal prolapse develops either after childbirth or after hysterectomy. In some cases, the prolapse is also evidenced post menopause.
